ABOUT US

Your Path to Healing Begins with Counseling in Midtown Sacramento

We all lose our footing once in a while. Sudden losses and life’s challenges can come out of the blue. Sometimes past traumatic experiences catch up to us, and we feel old pain as if it were new.

Therapy provides a place to catch your breath. It is a confidential and calm environment where you can begin to hear your own voice. A therapist helps you make sense of what has changed in your life, or uncover what needs to. A therapist can see the strength you forgot you had.

We believe that people heal in and through relationships. When people lose a loved one, or experience traumatic events, relationships can become harder. This is when it’s helpful to have a counselor. Even in the darkest times, we will be looking at your bright spots, and guiding you toward your truest self.

How often are sessions and how long will therapy take?

Therapy begins with weekly, 50-minute session. The frequency of session might increase or decrease depending on your needs. It is common for therapy to begin with weekly appointments, and at some point become twice a month. There is no way to predict how long therapy will take because therapy is personalized every person is unique. Sometimes people come to therapy with a specific goal they want to achieve and with that focus, therapy can be briefer. Other times there are relational themes that reoccur in a person’s life and more in-depth therapy would be more helpful. EMDR therapy helps with the negative effects of traumatic events. If there is one event, that can be briefer therapy. If there are several adverse experiences, or traumatic memories from childhood  that a person has been living a while, that might take longer. Therapy will last until you are feeling well, for the most part. Some people think that since a person can never be alive again, grief therapy might as well last forever. That isn’t true. There is a point where people do feel better, and the memories are easier to carry.
